Luxury Picnic On A Budget

The title of this blog post probably sounds (to some) like some sort of oxymoron or other funny wordplay. But the dictionary definition of luxury is a state of great comfort and extravagant living what could possibly make a luxury picnic more comfortable than knowing you didn’t overspend on it? Exactly. Let’s get into the tips.

Shop Your Home

You’d be surprised how much prettier your dishes might look outdoors. There are probably lots of fancy dishes you have that you only bring out on special occasions, this is one of them. Use the things that bring you joy. Just be sure to package them very well before you set off.

Thrifting

I love a good sale as much as the next girl but it’s hard to beat the pricing at a yard sale on some dishes for your luxury picnic. Thrift shops are also great for having quality fabrics and linens you can use to soften up the ambiance for your dining experience and set the scene for relaxation. Just a note, quite a few thrift shops have started to upsell certain items so when you find something you like, truly consider if you’re saving much money on it. Is it sturdy and built well? Will it last beyond this one picnic?

Menu Matters

Here in Hawaii, the cost of pretty much all food is higher than most people are used to anywhere else. Very quickly I started to get scrappy and use creative ways to present a beautiful meal at an intimate gathering. Select the menu that will suit your tastes and your budget nicely. Think about which food items will be more filling and which are just fillers to make your charcuterie board look complete. Don’t skimp but definitely put thought into where your money should go for which parts of the meal. Maybe an ingredient you are using in one dish could also be used in drinks or even as a garnish.
