Four Ways I Use Notion In My Life and Business

notion holds it all

I’m a full blown Notion convert, you’ve been warned. If I could put more things in Notion I absolutely would. But for now, let’s talk about the four greatest uses I currently find for using Notion to organize and prioritize.

In this post we’ll go over using Notion for running our home, a micro business, content creation for this blog, and homeschooling. Grab your tea.

micro business

My small business is run completely by me. I sometimes have help setting up or breaking down a luxury picnic, or on a really lucky day somebody will have the kids instead of me. But otherwise, I’m it. That means I am the CEO, Customer Relations, Marketing, HR, Photographer, and Payroll. I love running a luxury picnic business, especially in Hawaii, but it’s a lot for my mind. I have one place where I can store all of it in an organized way.

Love a nice clean Notion database! Ah.

I find that having things laid out this way makes it super simple to find what I am looking for. Less resistance makes me more likely to get my work done. It took me a while to get everything straightened out. I have found that this setup makes the most sense for my mind. I use my Micro Business Notion Dashboard for tracking finances, storing documents, luxury picnic package planning, inventory, goal tracker, inspiration image gallery, photo storage, and an ideas list.

content creation

I split my small business from my blog because this space is personal. This blog is a re-imagining of the blog I ran (Love Becomes Her) for five years. LBH had it’s own sticker shop and download-ables shop at one point so I was juggling quite a bit. This was actually the first use of Notion I found, and what made me fall in love with the app.

Content creators find all sorts of ways to utilize the power of Notion.

  • goal and milestone tracking
  • branding and contact information
  • social media planner, trackers, and past post gallery
  • writing blog posts from draft to publish
  • scripting youtube videos
  • affiliate marketing link tracking and payouts
  • finances
  • content calendar
  • task list
  • one-off project planner
  • guidelines and standard operating procedures

I shared a template of my Content Creator Dashboard for free if you would like to duplicate it into your own Notion. The link and the deep dive explanations of it are in the Content Creator Dashboard in Notion blog post.

running our home

Sometimes I feel a little silly putting home things into Notion and then I remind myself that it’s searchable. My mind, not so much. Better to have a drop zone for all the important information so I don’t try to keep it all in my head. It doesn’t hurt that I can share the whole dashboard with my husband either. This way he can view whatever information he might need from where ever in the world he is.

I do not use our grocery list and meal planner religiously but when I do put it to use, it helps me tremendously. For the most part our menus rotate one week at a time, depending on the food we already have at home.

When we are shopping for a special event or around a holiday though, I almost always refer to meal planner and/or the grocery list breakdown. We already store quite a few little random recipes in Notion. I save our most coveted recipes in Our Family Recipe Journal but the once-in-a-while dishes or the recipes we haven’t gotten around to trying are in Notion. I also put some of our absolute favorites into Notion in case we are traveling and need a specific recipe.

Our family travels planner is a great place for me to parse out all the smaller details of an upcoming trip. We can keep updating all of the plans in one central place! Plus, having the capability to use active hyperlinks helps every time we plan for travel. I like to list the dates of travel, flight information, accommodations, excursions and events, who’s expected to travel — everything I can in our Notion travel planner.

My husband and I started having “money meetings” right after we got engaged. It wasn’t long after I discovered Notion that all the updates moved over from our composition notebook. We can plan out the entire month’s spending, saving, and debt pay-downs there. We also discuss what’s working and what isn’t, upcoming events that month, and adjust where we need to.

I could go on about the ways I use Notion to stay on top of our household. Just let me know if you’d like a dedicated blog post on this one.

homeschool

We just recently started homeschooling (officially) but before we got up and running, I set us up completely in Notion. It is where our mission statements and goals are listed and where I wrote out our true intention for homeschooling. I refer back to these every time I have one of those “What was I thinking!?” moments.

My Notion Homeschool Dashboard tracks attendance, milestones, our book lists, parent teacher meetings, and of course lesson planning. Last year when both kids were preschoolers I did all of the prep work for unit studies there as well.

As I learn more and use this dashboard I will likely create a blog post regarding homeschool prep in Notion, so keep an eye out for that.

There you have it, my favorite and most utilized uses for Notion. Would you add anything else? How do you use Notion to organize your life?
